Tree Register
Did you know there is a Tree Register of notable trees in the country?
You can search your area and make a day of it driving around checking them out – the kids will love the adventure. Or it’s a great idea for a date (cheap too).
www.notabletrees.org.nz is the web-site where you can search Auckland or wherever you are. The site give you valuable information about the trees, their age, scientific name etc.
Here’s our favourite, tree 774 🙂
Planted in 1883, this large Moreton Bay fig has been a significant feature of Devonport for many years. The image show the great lengths gone to to protect the aerial roots of the tree.
If mapping your way through the Tree Register seems like a lot of work, you can make the day a lot easier and start with Albert Park in the city centre then head towards the Auckland Domain. That’s a couple of hours of entertainment right there, plus you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat at numerous cafes in the area.
Enjoy 🙂
